Some good – some bad this morning.  After a very rainy night (1.38 in. since dusk – not associated with Maria), TS Maria is having a hard time staying together.  The Hurricane Hunter flight scheduled for this afternoon may find it is just a tropical wave/depression.  But she is still forecasted to pass just to our south (not good – strongest winds to the north) with winds of about 50 mph w/some higher gusts.  I think WindGuru is being a bit aggressive in forecasting 21 ft. seas – other indications are for 12 – 15 ft. seas from the E and ESE.  Also, satellite shows thunderstorm activity has lessened in the area of the storm.

 

Right now, look for tropical force winds to start affecting us around daybreak on Sat., (winds from the N slowly clocking to the E) with the storm passing just to our south Sat. afternoon.  The worst of the storm will be late Sat. afternoon/evening (remember – 50 mph winds PLUS 23 mph forward speed) with winds from the south most of the afternoon.  Dangerous seas from the ESE will also start early Sat. with very heavy, eroding surf on the south shore Sat. mid-day through early Sunday.  Rain should hold off pretty much until the storm has arrived, but continue quite heavy through Sat. night – with some flash flooding possible.  Hurricane shutters?  Me – probably not but make that call last minute Fri. night.  But lawn/deck furniture will be secured, and will make sure generator has plenty of gas.

 

Finally, Antigua/Barbuda Met Office has REMOVED us from the Tropical Storm Watch list (we are NORTH of the storm by about 10 miles) while Antigua (10 miles south of the storm) and St. Kitts/Nevis (30 miles south of center) remain under a watch.  Go figure!  St. Martin MAY issue a watch today.

 

If Hurricane Hunter finds worsening conditions, another report tonight, else update in the morning.  Cheers – stay dry.
